A Truly African Bush Lodge
Emphasis is on hospitality and good food, rather than simply a place to stay. We believe luxury is the freedom to be at one with nature, to do what you want, when you want and not how much cut glass is on the dinning room table. Mhlonsinga is just how a South African bush lodge should be, comfortable in all the right places and not deterring from the reason of being there – to experience Africa!
There are 7 charming thatched roof bush lodges nestled within 960 hectares(9.6sq km) of dense African bush. The camp accommodates a maximum of 14 adults plus children, creating a truly intimate and unique African experience. The rooms are naturally constructed and comfortably furnished.
The camp was originally built by the Van Rensburg family as a hunting lodge but is now open to the public as a place to immerse yourself in the great African bush. It still holds the same tranquillity and restfulness. Mhlosinga is a place to escape the pressures of life, to be a part of the African wilderness.
Animals to see within Mhlosinga game park include Impala, Bush Pig, Warthog, Nyala, Suni, Grey Duiker and Red Duiker, Giraffe, Blue Wildebeest, Reedbuck, Kudu, Waterbuck, Monkey, Baboons and Leopards. These animals regularly drink from the main watering hole which is a mere 100-200 metres from your dining room table! Further animals, including the big five(Buffalo, Leopard, Lion, Elephant and Rhinoceros) are seen at Hluhluwe, Umfolozi and Mkuze local game reserves. One can view game all year round but the months of April to August are particularly good. (links here to activities page).
The warmth of the African sun at dusk, sundowners and the murmur of crickets whilst watching game is an experience yet to behold.
With its high standards of hospitality together with the tranquillity of being able to watch game from your dining room table, you couldn’t get a more relaxing formula for a safari holiday.
But by far the greatest benefit of this privately owned camp is the in-depth knowledge of the owners, your hosts themselves. With exceptional knowledge of the African eco systems and wildlife, they are there to guide and direct you in every aspect of your safari holiday and if you so wish, to help you plan your daily activities.
There are various drives through the game park in which the camp is located, both early morning and early evenings together with sound advice of other game parks and local area activities.
The terrain is open decidous woodland, dry, dusty with plentiful trees and bush. It is not uncommon to see herds of Giraffe and other animals whilst driving locally outside the Mhlosinga park.
Its location warrants many exceptional day trips to local attractions. There are various other game parks which surround Mhlosinga seen by drive-through or by park guides only.
If you fancy something a little different, a 1 hour drive takes you to one of the best diving spots in South Africa, Sodwana Bay and the world heritage site of St Lucia. With its magnificent long stretches of pure white sandy beaches, lagoons and beach crocodiles it is a must-see.
